For the culture. A huge congratulations to Virgil Abloh as he was just named Louis Vuitton’s new menswear designer. That’s big time!
With this announcement, Virgil Abloh becomes the first African-American artistic director. The New York Times states that Abloh will be moving his family to Paris to be closer to the brand. Virgil Abloh will replace Kim Jones who was Louis Vuitton’s last menswear designer who had held the position since 2011.
“The first thing I am going to do is define new codes. My muse has always been what people actually wear, and I am really excited to make a luxury version of that,” Abloh said.
For those of you wondering what’s going to happen with Off-White now that Virgil Abloh is working with Louis Vuitton, don’t worry, his Off-White brand will still continue.
“Off-White is for the 17-year-old version of myself, whereas Vuitton is for the 37-year-old I am today,” Abloh said.
